I recently caught up with many of the speakers at this year’s Agent Reboot and Inman Connect in San Francisco. The question that I asked each of them was “If you had to give your one secret piece of advice for successfully marketing real estate into 2015 and beyond, what would it be?” The answers might surprise you in their consistency. They all center around providing value for the consumer and using technology to connect with them in ways that nurture relationships. Real estate marketers around the globe face similar challenges. Most are constantly fine tuning their social strategies, starting to experiment with utilizing data both big and small, and focusing lots of energy on lead generation tactics. But 2015 will pose its own hurdles as real estate professionals concentrate their efforts on creating meaningful user experiences, achieving measurable social ROI, making better use of online advertising, and knowing their customers in even deeper, more actionable ways.

For many real estate professionals and brands, 2015 will be the year they embrace content and inbound marketing. It’s still difficult for many in real estate to perceive the value in creating utility for consumers without turning that utility into an advertisement. But the rest of the marketing world has already begun to jump on the content marketing bandwagon. Some would say real estate as an industry hasn’t really moved far afield from the yard sign and “I’m a #1 agent” photos that still grace so many agent and broker websites. We have a long way to go to match the expectations of the consumer. But whoever said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks was not living in the Google era.
